Released today by British Superyacht member Marine Resources, the Marine Industry Salary Survey 2026 highlights an engaged workforce that remains proud of its industry but clear about where it must evolve. Salary has now emerged as the primary driver when professionals consider a new role - a notable shift from previous surveys, where it did not rank as the leading factor.
Now in its third edition, this new report brings together insight from across the UK marine and maritime industries, creating one of the most comprehensive benchmarks on pay, benefits and employment trends available to the sector. Drawing on information from over 1,000 respondents, submitting information across 14,748 data points from employees and employers, the findings present a clear picture of an industry at a pivotal stage in its development.

While commitment remains strong, expectations around reward, progression and workplace culture are evolving, reflecting wider economic pressures and a more candid perspective. Findings point to a noticeable shift in what professionals across the marine industry now prioritise when considering their careers, highlighting a workforce increasingly focused on fair, transparent and competitive pay. Alongside this, the data signals a growing call for stronger leadership, clearer communication and more defined, long-term career pathways. Inclusion and representation remain firmly on the agenda, with the need for continued progress if the industry is to attract and retain a broader future talent pool.
Alongside this, the survey explores how expectations around benefits and working environments are changing. What were once viewed as added incentives are now increasingly seen as standard, with employees placing greater emphasis on development opportunities and overall workplace experience.

“This year’s survey provides real insight into what employees are prioritising and what they expect from the industry,” said James Ward, MD & Founder of Marine Resources. “A huge amount of time, care and industry input goes into creating this report each year because we genuinely believe it matters. It is designed to be used - not just read - giving businesses meaningful data they can act on to support and retain their people. One of the most interesting shifts is that benefits such as flexibility are now being expected as standard. These findings give a clear opportunity to listen, reflect and take positive steps forward, and we hope businesses across the sector will use this insight to shape stronger, more informed decisions.”
