Our British Superyacht Ambassador for Technical and Regulatory Affairs has an important update.
The Tokyo MOU and Paris MOU have announced a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) focused on Crew Wages and Seafarer Employment Agreements (SEA) under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC). This inspection campaign will run from September 1 to November 30, 2024.
This CIC follows in the footsteps of previous campaigns targeting critical areas such as Fire Safety, Emergency Systems, and MARPOL Annex VI compliance. These inspections are vital for ensuring that our industry not only meets but exceeds international standards for seafarer welfare.
Why this matters:
Preparedness is key – Ensure your yacht(s) are fully compliant with the MLC requirements on crew wages and employment agreements.
Impact on operations – Non-compliance could lead to detention or delays, which can be costly for owners and operators.
Reputation at stake – The superyacht industry prides itself on excellence; let’s demonstrate our commitment to the welfare of our crew.
British Superyacht urges all superyacht operators, managers, and crew to heed this campaign. Review your current practices and be proactive in addressing any gaps. A well-prepared yacht not only passes inspections with ease but also sets a standard of care that reflects positively on our entire industry.
