British Superyacht appoints Ambassador for the Channel Islands

British Superyacht is delighted to announce the appointment of it's 'Ambassador' for the Channel Islands, Simon Porritt of Channel Island Port Services.

Simon brings extensive maritime expertise and a deep commitment to the Channel Islands in his role as British Superyacht’s Channel Islands Ambassador. Leading Channel Island Port Services, a trusted provider of superyacht agency services, Simon collaborates with The Resolution Centre and top regional financial firms to support sustainable, streamlined yacht ownership and operation. Together, they connect the operational, administrative, and governance needs—especially for family-owned yachts—with the Channel Islands’ premier service providers.

In his ambassadorship, Simon promotes the Channel Islands as a leading jurisdiction, combining exceptional maritime services and facilities with unique family business governance support. This role strengthens ties between the Channel Islands and the global superyacht community, showcasing the region’s distinct appeal and fostering long-term partnerships and collaboration within the British Superyacht network.

British Superyacht CEO, Richard Selby said "I am delighted that Simon and Channel Island Port Services have chosen to support our objectives in the Channel Islands area. Synonymous with the superyacht industry, the Channel Islands hosts a wealth of services that sit well within our remit to bring together the globally renowned quality and excellence of the superyacht industry around the British Isles. Having a presence in the area will broaden our reach an attract British Superyacht events in the future.

The Channel islands, and particularly Jersey and Guernsey for larger yachts (up to 130m or so in Jersey with the picture showing a vessel of 90m alongside in St Helier, Jersey), makes a great base for superyachts and their owners, many of whom enjoy regular stopovers on a short and long-term basis.

Jersey Marinas is also a Superyacht Ready marina. This prestigious certification is granted to marinas that meet the minimum capacity and capabilities necessary to provide safe and adequate berthing for superyachts.

TYHA Superyacht Ready program is designed to help captains and owners identify suitable marinas for their vessels. Channel Island Port Services celebrates this significant achievement with Jersey Marinas - already the only Gold Anchor marina operators in the Channel Islands.

The Channel Islands have so much to offer the visiting yacht. They are Crown Dependencies and as such are not part of the UK nor ever part of the EU. This in its own right has many benefits; Duty-Free or low-duty Marine Gas Oil, no VAT or low GST, and no other Government service taxes, fantastic transport links (daily flights to London, Southampton and Manchester) for a fast efficient crew change, daily ferry services to the UK and France, an understanding and helpful customs service and most of all a friendly and welcoming people.
